What is HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene)?

HDPE is a thermoplastic that is well-known and well-liked for its strength, lightness, and ease of shaping. As a result, the use and supply of HDPE plastics have only grown over time, owing to the numerous benefits and efficiency it can provide to practically any product.

Applications of HDPE Plastic

HDPE plastic is utilized in a variety of applications and industries all over the world. Almost everyone has used or benefited from something made of HDPE at some point in their lives.

The following are some examples of common applications:

  • Piping systems
  • Drums of petrol
  • Hard helmets
  • Water Bottles
  • Containers for food and beverages

Because our society and many businesses are pursuing sustainability goals, such as lowering the amount of material used in packaging and products, HDPE, like many other plastics, is frequently used by plastic bottle manufacturers to replace heavier materials. “Less influence on the environment” might be translated as “high - strength.” Plastics, for example, can supply more food with much less waste, energy use, and global warming potential than alternatives, according to recent research.

How to identify HPDE plastic

If you turn your body wash bottle or other plastic containers over and see the number 2 with a chasing arrow etched on the back, that is the resin identifying code for HDPE. The code was created decades ago to aid in the start-up of plastics recycling (although today, community recycling programs are less likely to ask for plastics by the resin code number than in the past).
